The reading activity requires NO PREP; it has a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers and answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of the document. It also contains a multiple choice quiz, a crossword activity and a wordsearch puzzle to consolidate learning.
The Informational Writing Unit is split into three lessons. The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the final lesson your class will need to use the format provided to write an introduction for the text before checking their draft paragraphs for mistakes and writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided.

A LeBron James Escape Room activity. Ideal for Year 5 or Year 6, the activity is perfect for group work; Black History Month; team-building activities; or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about LeBron James and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.
In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.
In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important events or figures from African American athletes in the history of sport before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.
In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.
Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

A reading comprehension activity, or informational text, with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the Jamaican Olympic superstar and record holder, Usain Bolt. The Google Forms activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in Year 3 or Year 4 learning about the Olympic Games.
When downloaded this resource includes a printable version of the reading comprehension and a PDF with a link that allows you to copy the Google Forms document and save it in your Google Drive.
The activity can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.
Time allowance to complete:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
30-40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)
